I started this blog five years ago, as I was staring down big changes in my life. I was about to leave my job and move across the country, and wanted to give prospective employers a great view of my talents and possibilities. This blog proved to be very successful, and, within a few months of my my move, I landed my dream job. Over the last two years, Pinterest has exploded on the social media landscape. Many have run to it due to its demographics that uniquely skew towards women, and many have also struggled to find the right use of the platform for their brand. Very soon after starting at Girl Scouts River Valleys, I launched their Pinterest account with the intention of using it to recruit and retain volunteers that are so key to our movement. For all the troubles I had in math classes as a child, I never would have imagined how much time I happily spend working on spreadsheets and numbers as an adult. Much of the change is due to how I don’t see these sheets as lists of numbers, but as stories about how people behave online. Continue reading
